On December 10th, Daily Sun published an op-ed by Ambassador Li Jiming in the series China: Good Governance Rooted in an Ancient Civilization titled Enough of Fundamentalism of Democracy.

In the op-ed, Ambassador Li pointed out that the so-called “Summit for Democracy” is a huge irony and that US has not right to be the sole judge of what democracy is. Recognizing the detrimental consequences of “fundamentalism of democracy”, Ambassador Li called for expanding the bandwidth of democracy and allowing different political models to coexist and thrive. In the end, Ambassador Li provided China’s recipe for building true democracy: Whole-process People’s Democracy, which integrates process-oriented democracy with results-oriented democracy, procedural democracy with substantive democracy, direct democracy with indirect democracy, and people’s democracy with the will of the state, with the people’s status as masters of the country being the essence of it.
