On December 28, 2014, President Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh met with Wang Yi at the Banga Bhaban in Dhaka.
Hamid expressed that China is a sincere friend of Bangladesh and Bangladesh thanks China for providing long-term and valuable support to Bangladesh's economic and social development. China is leading Asia's development and Bangladesh hopes to take the opportunity of China to attract Chinese investment, conduct cooperation on major infrastructure projects, build industrial parks, tap into human resources and promote employment in Bangladesh. China's initiative of the construction of "Belt and Road" is very beneficial for regional development and Bangladesh will participate actively. Bangladesh is willing to work with China to accelerate the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor.
Wang Yi expressed that China cherishes China-Bangladesh friendship and stands ready to take the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship to uplift friendly cooperation to a new level and create a new pattern for bilateral relations. Bangladesh is a populous country and blessed with geographical advantages of connecting two major markets of East Asia and South Asia. Thus, it enjoys tremendous development potential and broad prospects. China is willing to combine Bangladesh's urgent development needs with China's edge to strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh in the fields of economy and trade, agriculture, infrastructure, industrial parks, electric power and so on thus to grow Bangladesh's self-development capacity, improve its development conditions and accelerate its development. China is quickening its pace to open up to the west and South Asia is an important direction for China to implement the strategy. China appreciates Bangladesh's positive response to and active participation in the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the BCIM Economic Corridor. It is hoped that within this framework China will strengthen connectivity and practical cooperation with South Asian countries including Bangladesh so as to achieve common development.
