This year holds special significance for the Chinese military, as it marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. From 1931 to 1945, through 14 years of arduous war of resistance, China suffered over 35 million military and civilian casualties. At a tremendous cost to the nation, China has made significant contributions to victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Peace is hard-won and must be well safeguarded. We must learn from history, draw wisdom and strength from the profound lessons of World War II and the great victory of the Anti-Fascist War, resolutely oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics to jointly create a brighter future for humanity.

In today’s world, the deficits in peace, development, security, and governance continue to grow. In the face of these global challenges, China has proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and actively leading the reform of the global governance system with equity and justice. As a steadfast force for world peace, the Chinese military actively embraces the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, resolutely fulfills its international responsibilities and obligations, deeply engages in global security governance, actively participates in arms control, disarmament and nonproliferation, develops constructive military relations with Bangladesh and other friendly countries, and provides public security goods to the international community, striving to building a better world of lasting peace and universal security. Based on this, the Chinese and Bangladeshi militaries maintain long-term and close cooperation in various fields, which have already made important contributions to the development of both national defence and world peace.

Humanitarianism is the greatest consensus that can unite different civilizations. The Chinese military actively participates in international disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, dispatching professional rescue forces to disaster-inflicted countries for rescue and disaster reduction, providing relief supplies and medical aid. The Chinese Navy’s hospital ship "Peace Ark" has carried out the “Harmony Mission" series of tasks in 49 countries and regions. In this March, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, the common neighbor of China and Bangladesh. When the Chinese military rescue team swiftly arrived in Myanmar to assist, the Bangladeshi military also delivered critical relief supplies to the affected areas. In the face of disaster, both Chinese and Bangladeshi militaries are upholding the international community's responsibility and commitment by safeguarding lives and delivering love.

This year also marks the 35th year of the Chinese military’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations. The Chinese military so far has participated in 25 peacekeeping missions, and dispatched over 50000 personnel to more than 20 countries and regions. Chinese peacekeepers completed tasks such as mine clearance, explosive ordinance disposal, and protection of civilians. 17 Chinese service members have made the ultimate sacrifice for the UN peacekeeping cause. As is well known, China and Bangladesh are both pivotal contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. Blue Helmets from China and Bangladesh have stepped forward for world peace with courage and persistence in despite of difficulties and dangers. Even this world is full of turbulence and transformation, I am confident that our joint efforts will kindle more hope and peace.

As it enters a new era, China will continue to unswervingly uphold the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, while steadfastly pursuing peaceful development. Simultaneously, China will consistently be a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and an upholder of the international order. Furthermore, the Chinese military will remain true to its original aspiration and founding mission to fulfill the responsibilities of a major country, safeguard world peace, contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind, and forges ahead tirelessly in the cause of world peace.
